Shirley Apartments

Shirley Apts is located at 133 N. Dithridge Street. It is very small, a total of about 40 people in the whole building. So even upperclassmen don't know where it is most of the time. It helps that the apts are located just beside the most well-known Webster Hall(which is where you really want to be). The apts in Shirley are pretty big(for campus housing), the 2 occupant rooms are as big as an old HDB 1 room flat. You get your own kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom shared between 2 people.

The Apts are about 15-20 minutes from school by foot, but you can always take the many buses that run from here to school. it's about 2 stops. The school shuttle also runs by here. You're close to Craig Street, which is a really nice little street with food, stores and cafes. Also you're near to the more ghetto part of Oakland at Center Avenue, which has gas stations and Giant Eagle, which is a local supermarket chain. Oakland, the student area, is also about 5-10 minutes away by foot. So in a way, you get the security of campus housing, with the experience of actually living in Pittsburgh, as opposed to being stuck on campus all the time for food.

The RA Vickie is really nice, and she'll be RA again next year so that'll be good. I'm not sure what the usual composition of students here is, but we get a nice mix of freshman and mostly upperclassman. A lot of CFA people here, voice major, theatre people, skaters, design, art majors, CS majors, Physics....it's a really interesting place to hang out at. It's not like a convention dorm where doors are open all the time, but you will get the chance to meet everybody who lives here and meet people you'll like to chill with.

It's a good place.
